My yoga teacher used to remind us to show up for our moments, not to be tardy and miss our lives. It takes a conscious effort day to day to be present. Yesterday John and and I went for a drive up the coast to the Jenner Inn. I looked at a magazine about the 40 best beaches in the world and immediately longed to be on a tropical beach. Then I picked up a local paper called Upbeat Times. This quote on the front page jumped out at me. "All of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon - instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today." Dale Carnegie I savored the drive home along the sparkling blue ocean much more deeply after reading that. I hope this poem is an inspiration to embrace the miracle of your life.
The Miracle of My Life
I ache and sunshine lights my home. I despair and awareness coaxes me toward other choices. I complain at unfairness and failure while opportunities for learning abound. I yearn for more, yet my cupboards burst with belongings. I resent unkindness while loving compassion beats against the inner walls of my heart. I grieve for mistakes and losses and the miracle of my life shines like a Christmas tree, twinkling. I yearn for something different and the moment contains a fullness of grace and wonder that waits to be received.
